WVU’s English Department and MFA Program will host WVU Press authors Tom Bredehoft and Natalie Sypolt for a reading and book signing at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday, September 15 in Elizabeth Moore Hall’s Betty Boyd Drawing Room.

Bredehoft, a former WVU faculty member, will read from his new book “Foote: A Detective Novel” Located in Morgantown, Bredehoft’s book mentions the PRT, WVU crime scene houses, the Rail-Trail, area events and more. Private investigator Big Jim Foote also encounters traditional Appalachian mountain and folk culture and the impact of the opioid epidemic.

“A tale of humanity wrapped in the garb of an excellent hard-hitting thriller. Part mystery, part fable but utterly original, Jim Foote is sure to be one of your favorite literary sleuths – cryptid or otherwise. —Jordan Farmer, author of “The Poison Flood” and “The Pallbearer”

WVU MFA alumni Sypolt will read from her book “The sound of holding your breath”, a collection of stories set in a small town in West Virginia.

“Sypolt writes with a sober love and unconscious respect for people’s insides and a place that too many writers only touch from the outside. An impressive start. – Ann Pancake, author of “Strange As This Weather Has Been “.
