Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday urged listeners to his radio show Mann Ki Baat to name five books they most enjoyed reading this year to help others follow the “right trend” to read more, which, according to him, should be further strengthened.

He spoke of an “interesting venture” by the Pune-based Bhandarkar Oriental Research Institute to make India’s ancient texts and cultural values popular not only in the country but all over the world.

“This institute has launched an online course to familiarize people from other countries with the importance of the Mahabharata. You would be amazed to know that although this course has started now, the taught content started to take shape over 100 years ago, ”he added.
