She tells us, “I’ve only had a few reading teachers who influenced me in my life – who made me want to be a reader. And I wanted to be a teacher who could give that back to them too. Ms Collins continues: “There are just all these things that you have to read, understand, understand and apply to yourself and make decisions about your life. She wants students to not only read… but to make “connections” as well. Collins, “I really try to make it interdisciplinary in terms of the social studies that we can bring in or the sciences, and we have this moment—I want it to be connected. For them to establish these links. “And those connections make the difference. A student of Ms Collins, Madison Hedden said: ‘She makes sense. “But it’s not just about making those connections with reading. It’s also about making those connections with students. Meteorologist Melissa Hall says, ‘It’s almost like you’re giving them a little home here. I try.” And her students will tell you, as Madison Hedden told us, “Her feeling that she gives off is mainly the big thing that I love.” Thank you, Mrs. Collins!
